God is our gracious king
Study Guide
The following may help you reflect further on the message
(the points could also be used as a discussion guide at fellowship groups)
- Abram found reassurance in a personal and direct word from the LORD. How do we find assurance today? Read Psalm 23; Psalm 91:1-2; Hebrews 13:5-6.
- So far in Genesis, we have had the name Elohim, which is a general name for a creator God who knows everything. We have had the name Elyon or God most high. We have had El Roi, the God who sees. Now there is a revelation of the almighty power of God as El Shaddai. How im¬portant is this for us today?
- How do you understand the command in Genesis 17:1 to walk before God and be blameless? How does this relate to our need for righteous-ness in for example 2 Corinthians 5:21? See also Galatians 3:13-14.
- Look at Galatians 3:6-9, and discover how Abraham and we ourselves can be saved in the same way.
- Abraham was called a “friend of God” in 2 Chronicles 20:7; James 2:23; and Isaiah 31:8. Is this possible today? (See Genesis 17:1-3 and John 15:13-15).
- In what way can we enter the experience of Abram in Genesis 17:3 and “fall facedown before the LORD”?
