An advent of peace
Study Guide
The following may help you reflect further on the message
(the points could also be used as a discussion guide at fellowship groups)
- Read John 20.30, 31. What levels of meaning does John distinguish?
- What are John’s writing aims? When we read his gospel, what do you think he wants us to gain by it?
- What useful ways have you found for experiencing life while hearing/ reading the scriptures?
- Please read Philippians 4.6,7, Paul makes a similar point to John. What does Paul encourage us to have? How are we to gain “no anxiety”? How do we receive God’s peace?
- Maybe with one person as Jesus, another as the narrator, another as the Samaritan woman, another as the disciples and yet another as the Samaritans, please read John 4:1-42. This chapter describes Jesus’ encounter with the Samaritan woman.
- What do you understand by the phrase in verse 6, “It was about the sixth hour?”
- What picture of the Samaritan woman is painted in verses 6-25?
- How is Jesus described in verses in 6-26?
- Describe the effect on the woman and her community due to her and their encounter with Jesus, verses 28-30, 39-42.
- Reflect on your life, what can you receive from God to help in your situations/ relationships?
