Living in the rhythm of Gods will
Study Guide
The following may help you reflect further on the message
(the points could also be used as a discussion guide at fellowship groups)
- Discuss the opening statement from Sunday’s message that hurry leads to frustration, frustration to anger, and anger to rage. What is worse is that hurry suggests that we don’t trust God’s timing in our lives.” How does this relate to the idea of entering the rhythm of God?
- In Genesis 16:2 Sarai was correct in her observation of the facts, but wrong in her evaluation and application. How should we relate to this today?
- How does Galatians 4:4-7 relate to Genesis 16 and to our daily walk with God?
- How does Romans 11:33–12:2 and 1 Thessalonians 4:3 help us in knowing God’s will for today?
- Discuss the inter-personal conflict taking place in Genesis 16:4-6. Why did the Angel of the Lord intervene in this conflict (vs.7-10)?
- What was the Lord doing with Hagar in Genesis 16:7-17? How does this relate to us today?
- Discuss and apply the following: Sarai and Abram tried to hide their problem, but it wouldn’t go away. Hagar tried to run away from the problem but the Lord wouldn’t let her. We don’t get rid of our problems by pretending they don’t exist.
- How do you relate to the name given to the Lord by Hagar in Genesis 16:13: El Roi — “You are the God who sees me!”
- Discuss the prophecy about Ishmael (Genesis 16:11-12) in the light of today’s political problems.
