A word for the weary
Study Guide
The following may help you reflect further on the message
(the points could also be used as a discussion guide at fellowship groups)
- How did you relate to Sunday’s message? Did it help to relate the problem of weariness to others in the Bible?
- Discuss the difference between being tired of doing good and being tired in it. How can this help us come to terms with the problem?
- Why is it so hard to do good in the world? Why do some people struggle more than others do?
- Would you like to discuss your weariness with other Christians? What do you think would happen if you did?
- How does our fallen flesh contribute to our being weary in the Christian life, and what can we do about it?
- Discuss the moral principle of sowing and reaping. How does this relate to the contrast between the works of the flesh and the fruit of the Spirit in Galatians 5:19-23?
- Discuss the following in the context of sowing and reaping: we may be free to choose, but we are not free to choose the consequences of our choice.
- Discuss the harvest you can look forward to if you do not grow weary in doing good. See 1 Corinthians 15:58.
- Did the message on Sunday help you in your weariness? If not what do you think could? How might Galatians 5:16-18 help?
