Look to Jesus

Study Guide

The following may help you reflect further on the message
(the points could also be used as a discussion guide at fellowship groups)

  1. In John 1:29, what does John the Baptist instruct his listeners to do?
What do you think John means by “look” in this verse, especially in the
    light of vs.35-42?
  2. How does John describe Jesus in 1:29? What does this mean for us to-
day? How can we benefit from Jesus as the Lamb of God? How does
John further describe Jesus in 1:30?
  3. In John 10, Jesus claims to be the Good Shepherd and we are his
sheep. How is this a helpful expansion of the thought that Jesus sur-
    passes us?
  4. In John 20:19 onwards, Jesus gives the Spirit. This seems quite differ-
ent from the gift of the Spirit at Pentecost. Talk about your experiences
of the Holy Spirit in the light of this.
  5. In what ways can we benefit from Jesus being the Son of God?
  6. John’s gospel is full of pictures or descriptions of Jesus: the winemaker,
the healer, the Good Shepherd, the Vine, etc. These give us a fuller
pic-ture of the historical Jesus. There are also other pictures or
descriptions of Jesus that are not based on the Jesus of the New
Testament, which ones have you come across? Which did you find
    uncomfortable or trouble-some?
  7. How does our reaction to the pictures of Jesus (above) help us to
under-stand ourselves, and the limitations we can put on the real
    Jesus?
  8. How can we prevent ourselves from creating the Jesus we want?
  9. Spend some time thanking God that He sent His Son as the Lamb of
God and the giver of the Spirit.
