I want to be clean
Study Guide
The following may help you reflect further on the message
(the points could also be used as a discussion guide at fellowship groups)
- Discuss the desire for purity in our society today. How does this relate to a spiritual desire for cleansing? How can we lead a conversation in this direction?
- How does Leviticus 13:1-8, and vs.45-46 help our understanding of Luke 5:12-15? What were the implications of leprosy for the person in Luke 5:12-14? How does this relate to our need for spiritual cleansing?
- Notice how the request for healing began with the man in Luke 5:12. How does this apply to our need for spiritual healing and renewal?
- How does the need for spiritual cleansing come out in Psalm 51:1-12?
- In contrast to the request in Luke 5:12-13, why is Jesus able and willing when it comes to salvation? If the Lord is willing, does this mean that everybody will come? See Hebrews 7:25 and 2 Peter 3:9.
- Discuss the implications of the following statement: Jesus has the power to heal everyone and one day he will. In the meantime, he heals some people miraculously, he heals others through medicine, he heals some over time, and some are not healed at all.
- What can we learn from the compassion of Jesus in Luke 5:13 when he touched the untouchable? Give examples of social outcasts that we might touch today. How does this relate to James 2:14-17?
- Discuss the irony in Luke 5:14 when Jesus told the man to keep quiet about the work of God, and he didn’t. We have been told to tell the world, and yet we keep quiet!
