Fishing with Jesus
Study Guide
The following may help you reflect further on the message
(the points could also be used as a discussion guide at fellowship groups)
- Jesus went down to the lake because there were many people there. What does this teach us about reaching out to people in need? See Luke 5:1-3. How does this relate to Luke 10:1-2
- In the context of finding people and talking with them, discuss the implications of Colossians 4:2-6 for us today. Why are the number of conversations we have about our faith as important as the number of conversions
- There are many kinds of fish, and many different ways to catch them. What does this teach us reaching people today? See Luke 5:4-7.
- Compare Luke 5:6-7 with 1 Corinthians 3:8-9. Discuss the co-operation needed if we are to bring people to Christ.
- Why did Peter respond the way he did in Luke 5:8? Why didn’t Peter make the same kind of commitment after his experience in the synagogue, with this mother-in-law, and with the crowd outside his house?
- Why did Jesus perform this miracle only for his followers to leave everything (including the fish) to follow him?
- How does Ephesians 2:1-5 help us understand the statement of Jesus in Luke 5:10b — from now on we would catch people alive?
- What is the most important thing you learnt from Sunday’s message?
