Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you
1 Peter 5v1-14
1 Peter 5.7 summarises Peter’s encouragement to his readers. Here we see the great comfort of being a Christian. In the midst of the realities of life, we need to let this truth sink deep within us. Peter is writing to Christians who are suffering persecution. Life was tougher now: trials.
Because they are human, they are anxious. Peter encourages them: he’s warm: “Casting, putting all your cares, on Him ...” He writes to us. Chapter 5 summarises many of Peter’s points.
1. Hope in the God who called us, 1Pet 5v10.
Earlier, Peter expands this hope: 1Pet 1.3-6 We have a living hope that can never perish. What a comfort for these people! Also, God calls us to be like Jesus: 1 Pet 2.21-23. When things are going badly, do good. “The end never justifies the means.” 1 Pet 2.15f Tertullian: “the blood of the martyrs This shows our hope is in God.
2. Hope in the God who cares for us, 1Pet 5v7.
Peter directs us to hope in God because God cares for us. What a comfort! This is the foundational gospel truth. 1 Pet 2.9-10. Because God cares for us, we can cast our anxieties on Him
– the Lord’s prayer.
3. Hope in the God of Christ Jesus, 1Pet 5v1
Peter is a witness: 5.1.
- To Christ’s sufferings,
- To Christ’s example,
- To Christ’s resurrection.
This is the basis of Peter’s hope in God’s care. This is what he wants to communicate to us. Hope that is certain in a God who cares!!
So in conclusion:
You may feel like people in Isaiah’s time: 40.27 Peter gives us even more hope based on Jesus. Those suffering persecution and all Christians. “Cast all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you.” What a great comfort!! What a hope!! Based on Christ Jesus.
So let us cast our anxieties on Him.
