Strangers in the World

Study Guide

The following may help you reflect further on the message
(the points could also be used as a discussion guide at fellowship groups)

  1. Read John 4 v 4-9.  Who might be surprised if we as Christians took time to talk to them today?  Who are the taboos for Christians in society today?
  2. Read Luke 19 v 1-7.  Have you ever been tempted to mutter about the sort of friends a Christian has?  Has anybody ever muttered about your friends?
  3. Read Daniel 1 v 5 and 8.  Have you ever had to draw the line and refuse to do something required of you by anyone in authority?
  4. God won't always send angels to close the lions' mouths.  How do we keep faith that God is in control when we don't get a happy ending and the answer to prayer that we hoped for?
  5. Peter tells us that sinful desires wage war on our souls.  How do we make sure we are equipped to fight back?
  6. Everyday life is busy and stressful.  Do you find it hard to keep focussing on heavenly things and the inheritance you have been promised?
  7. Do you think it is harder to live as a stranger in a nominally Christian country, compared to one where Christianity is not mainstream or even tolerated?
