All in a Day's Work

Study Guide

The following may help you reflect further on the message
(the points could also be used as a discussion guide at fellowship groups)

  1. What is going on in Luke 4:31-37 and how does this relate to us today? You may find it helpful to compare the previous two sections in Luke.
  2. How does Luke 4:31-37 relate to James 2:19? How does this relate to people who believe today?
  3. How does the passivity of the demon-possessed person in Luke 4:31-37 relate to Ephesians 6:12-13? How does this in turn relate to Colossians 2:9-10 and 1 John 4:4?
  4. Luke 4: 36 says, “With authority and power Jesus gives orders to evil spirits and they come out!” In the light of this, discuss the following: authority is the right to tell people what to do whereas power is to see that they do it.
  5. Discuss the way Jesus healed Peter’s mother-in-law and others in Luke 4:38-40. How should we view miraculous healing today? Discuss the idea of healing in Isaiah 53:4-6 (compare Matthew 8:16-17).
  6. Why would Jesus not allow demons to say he was The Messiah in Luke 4:41? How is this important for us today?
  7. How do you understand the idea of Jesus finding a solitary place in Luke 4:42-43? How do you maintain the rhythm of life?
  8. Jesus asked people not to tell others who he was. Why was this important then and how does it apply to us today? See Matthew 28:18-20.
