Living In The Power Of The Spirit
Study Guide
The following may help you reflect further on the message
(the points could also be used as a discussion guide at fellowship groups)
- We come together in church and elsewhere from a broken and bewildered world. We come primarily to worship God, to seek help from his word, and to encourage one another. How can the early life of Jesus help us do this?
- Why is it important for people who live in the Spirit to be found with the people of God? How does this relate to the experience of Jesus in Luke 4:16? Hebrews 10:25 and some of the other “one-another passages” may help in your discussion.
- Discuss the good news that Jesus shared in Luke 4:17-19. How can we relate to this today? See also Isaiah 61:1-2 and Isaiah 58:6.
- What does it mean to be anointed by God (Luke 4:18 and Acts 10:38). How does this relate to us today? See 2 Corinthians 1:21-22 and 1 John 2:20.
- As God’s anointed, how can we apply the idea of proclaiming good news to the poor, sight for the blind, and freedom to the enslaved and oppressed (Luke 4:18-19)?
- Read Luke 4:21 and discuss how we fulfil the purpose of God today.
- Note how Jesus returned to his home village. What affect should living in the power of the Spirit have on us—in our context?
- How did the words quoted by the devil in Luke 4:10-11 relate to Jesus in Luke 4:28-30? How can this apply to us today?
