Remembrance Sunday

Study Guide

The following may help you reflect further on the message
(the points could also be used as a discussion guide at fellowship groups)

    1. What was the context of Jesus instituting the first breaking of bread (either in Mt 26, Mk 14 or Luke 22)?
    2. Do we have any indication of how significant Jesus considers the breaking of bread to be? Do you think we reflect that in our normal practice?
    3. What do we notice about the practice in the early church (e.g. Acts 2:42, 2:46, 20v7ff)?
    4. 1 Cor 10v16-17 talks about the bread being a fellowship in the body of Christ. In what way? What does this mean for us today? How do you feel about that?
    5. In 1 Cor 11:27ff there are some dire warnings given to people at the Corinthian Church. What appears to be the issue there? Is this a warning we need to take seriously too, and if so, how?
    6. The wine represents the ‘new covenant in Jesus’ blood’.  How does Heb 8 help us understand why we need a new covenant?
    7. Heb 9:15-27 explains the significance of blood in the old covenant. What do we learn about the blood of the new covenant? Why does this give us confidence?
    8. If the new covenant means that Gods laws will be in our hearts and written on their minds… what does that look like for us today?  How would we expect to experience this?
    9. If Jesus’ words, “Remember me” are one of the few direct commands that Jesus issued, and we can demonstrate our love for Jesus by following his commands, how can we best obey Jesus as a church, and as individuals?
