Gods plan of Salvation throughout the Bible:

Calvary

Reading Isaiah 53

(ex on the vast amount of Scripture pointing to Jesus being the Messiah. Comment on notes issued)

The religious leaders of Jesus' day certainly were looking for a prophet like Moses to come. Yet when Herod enquired of them, they could say where the Messiah was to be born, but they didn't recognise Jesus' fulfilment of all the other Old Testament prophesies!

We have aimed, through this series to show that Calvary was not a last ditch reaction to man's sin, but God's perfect plan from the beginning of time.

Why then did God allow His Son to die for the salvation of creation?

What was happening at Eden , that would come to fruition at Calvary ?

Calvary was there at the beginning:

Ro 5:12 Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all men, because all sinned-- v15 But the gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died by the trespass of the one man, how much more did God's grace and the gift that came by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, overflow to the many! v17 For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God's abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ. For just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man the many will be made righteous.

If we are to understand, then we need to grasp God's eternal plan of 'new-creation'

Understanding God's plan for re-birth also sheds light on that most difficult of subjects; Pre-Destination.

We have to understand that the cross is a curse

Galations 3:13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: "Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree."

Crucifixion was unknown in Jewish criminal law. The hanging on a gibbet, which was prescribed by Jewish law for idolaters and blasphemers who had been stoned, was not a death penalty, but an additional punishment after death designed to brand the executed person as one accursed of God, in accordance with Duet. 21:23 'For he is accursed of God that hangeth on a tree' The Jews applied these words also to one who had been crucified. If crucifixion was the most shameful and degrading death penalty even in the eyes of the pagan world, the Jews in the time of Jesus regarded a person so executed as being, over and above, accursed of God.

(OHP)

The cross is a stumbling block

1Corinthians 1:23 but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling-block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles,

The cross is foolishness

1Co 1:18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

The cross has enemies

Philippians 3:18 For, as I have often told you before and now say again even with tears, many live as enemies of the cross of Christ.

The cross is peace

Colossians 1:20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.

The cross is the power of God

1Co 1:17 For Christ did not send me to baptise, but to preach the gospel--not with words of human wisdom, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power.

The cross is our only pride

Galations 6:14 May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.

The cross is reconciliation between God and man.

Eph 2:16 and in this one body to reconcile both of them to God through the cross, by which he put to death their hostility.
