Crabtree Fellowship unites to celebrate Jesus’ Victory.
12th – 14th October 2007
Crabtree Fellowship gathered for a weekend away recently, more than ably arranged by Diane. In total fifty of us managed to get away after a hard day’s work on Friday 12th October. We were greeted at the end of a long journey with sheets to put on our beds! However supper was also waiting for us. The kids went hyper, anyone would think they had arrived in a foreign country!
The guest speaker, Keith Berry gave a very short introduction on the Friday evening with energy and enthusiasm. (Just as well - we all looked exhausted).
“Iraq unites to celebrate football victory”
Keith introduced the theme for the weekend by recalling that Iraq won the Asian Football Cup by beating Saudi Arabia 1-0 in July. We then had the rest of the evening to guess the theme! That was a gentle start to the weekend.
Saturday morning started with a choice of ‘Pied Piper Run’ with Niall and the kids, a King family run or a quiet time(did anyone make that?)
The hard work soon began with Keith taking us through Ephesians 4, the theme being UNITY.
We were reminded of the Scriptural message to be unified through complete humbleness and patience. How did he say they should do that? Remember the Gospel, keep thinking on it so that you remain spiritually rich.
The weather was bright and mild for afternoon activities - falling in the river while canoeing, firing arrows or learning circus skills. Later that evening Dave and Carol provided entertainment with two hours of games – despite their bests efforts everyone enjoyed themselves so sounds like they’ll be back.
On Sunday morning Michael Palin and the kids shared what they had been doing during the weekend. It was surprising to learn they had not travelled anywhere but instead had ideas to brighten up the church building – they would like a swimming pool and a jacuzzi! That will certainly save time getting out the baptismal pool...
“Jesus sets an example”
Mike read from John 13 how Jesus set an example, of completely humbling himself, for all to follow (v15). If we get that pool it will be no problem...
Jeremy rounded off the weekend with a challenge for us all to apply Ephesians 4 by using our gifts.
All in all a great weekend!
